Budget 2009: Cigarettes & wine up 50 cent, petrol up 8 cent per litre

Minister Lenihan has revealed in his Budget 2009 speech his plans in relation to cigarettes, alcohol and motor fuel.
Excise on cigarettes will rise by 50 cent per packet of twenty.
Excise on a standard bottle of wine will also go up by 50 cent, with pro-rata increases on other wine products and an increase of 8 cent on a litre of petrol.
There will be no excise increase on beer, cider, spirits or on diesel.
The excise changes are VAT inclusive and will take effect from midnight tonight.
