Aer Lingus rows back on refusal to honour €5 flights

Friday April 18 2008

Aer Lingus has rowed back on its decision not to honour transatlantic flights bought on its website for just €5.

Dozens of people managed to purchase business-class flights to the US for just ?5, but the airline later cancelled the bookings, claiming the price was a technical error.

Yesterday, the National Consumer Agency said Aer Lingus had effectively entered into a contract with the customers and should offer some form of compromise.

After meeting the agency this morning, the airline now says it will let the customers take the flights in economy class rather than business class

The NCA says those who are not happy with the offer can take legal action against the company.
