17.5% ESB price increase comes into force today

Friday August 01 2008

A 17.5% increase in ESB prices is coming into force today, with a further price hike also expected to be introduced in the new year.

The company says the rise is necessary due to volatility on the international energy market.

It had sought an even larger price increase, but the energy regulator decided to only approve a 17.5% rise for the moment before making a decision on a further hike to come into force in January.

Households are also facing an increase in gas prices next month.
