Two men aged 45 and 60 are being held in connection with the shooting of an off-duty police officer.
The incident happened at about 7.30pm on Wednesday in the affluent Springhill area of Bangor, Co Down. It is understood the officer was grazed in the attack but not badly hurt.
At this stage the attack is not believed to be terror related.
A spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "Police are currently dealing with an alleged shooting incident in the Springhill area of Bangor involving an off-duty police officer.
"Police can confirm that no-one has been injured."
DUP MLA Alex Easton, who sits on the Stormont justice committee, condemned the attack.
He said: "I am deeply shocked that someone has tried to shoot someone in the Bangor area. This is deeply, deeply worrying.
"This is not what we want to see in our streets and I would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward to the police."
