Two children have been found dead at a house.
They were understood to have been found in a property in the Charleville area of north county Cork tonight after 5pm.
A Garda spokeswoman said local officers were at the scene.
It is understood a house has been sealed off in the Deerpark area of the town and at O'Rourke's Cross, the main Cork to Limerick Road has been closed to traffic as preliminary investigations continue.
A second crime scene was later sealed off after the body of a man, believed to be in his early 20s, was discovered in the area of Buttevant, a town south of Charleville on the road to Cork city.
Buttevant is about 15km away from where the boys were discovered.
Gardai said the two boys who died, understood to be twins aged nine, were pronounced dead at the house.
"The bodies remain at the scene and the area has been sealed off for technical examination, diversions are in place," the Garda press office said in a statement.
"The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and post mortems are expected to be carried out tomorrow on the bodies of the two children."
Gardai in Charleville appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them or any other Garda station.
A number of emergency services vehicles, including ambulances, remained at the scene several hours after the discovery.
A large crowd of people gathered on the road outside the property and a long line of cars were parked nearby.
Gardai manned two checkpoints on the northern and southern sides of the main road about two miles from the house, believed to be a family home.
