Six men have been arrested during a crackdown on organised crime in the south east.

The operation was launched from Thomastown Garda Station and involved several raids in south Kilkenny and Waterford.

A number of items were seized and investigations are ongoing.

A Garda spokesman said six men, aged from their late 20s to early 40s, were arrested and are being detained in Thomastown, Waterford and Wexford Garda Stations under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

They can be held for seven days under the anti-gangland law.
