Second man arrested over shooting

Gardai have arrested a second man over the shooting of Dean Johnston

Detectives investigating the murder of a man have arrested a second man within a week.

Dean Johnston, 20, was shot dead as he sat in the back of a car outside the home of his best friend in Moorefield Avenue in Neilstown, west Dublin, on May 25 last year.

Gardai said they arrested a man in his mid 40s in Clondalkin.

He is being held at Ronanstown Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A 23-year-old man arrested in Co Wexford on Monday remains in custody at Lucan Garda station, under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Johnston was killed when a man walked up to his friend's VW Golf car and fired five shots from a handgun into a rear passenger window.

He was hit in the head and shoulder and was later pronounced dead at Tallaght Hospital.

Mr Johnston lived a few doors away from where the shooting happened.
