Man stabbed in mobile phone mugging

A man has been stabbed in the Waterford Street area of Belfast

A man has been stabbed in the chest after refusing to give up his mobile phone.

The 46-year-old victim is in a serious but stable condition.

Police said his injuries were not life threatening.

The incident occurred in the Waterford Street area of Belfast in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man was making his way home at around 2.30am when another male, who was not known to him, demanded his phone.

When he refused to give it up, the man stabbed him in the chest and made off with the device.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
