Howlin outlines cuts in spending

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin outlined spending cuts in the second part of the Budget

In the second half of Budget 2013, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin has confirmed a raft of cuts in spending.

He said child benefit rates are to be reduced by 10 euro a month.

Household benefits are to be cut with a 61 million euro saving from the telephone allowance scheme and 20 million euro from the electricity allowance, he said.

Mr Howlin also said jobseekers benefit is to be reduced by three months.
