Four fishermen rescued from boat

The Campbeltown RNLI joined the coastguard and Royal Navy to help rescue the crew

Four fishermen have been rescued after their boat started taking on water off Campbeltown Loch.

The vessel broadcast a mayday message at 2.30am on Friday reporting that it required immediate assistance.

The Campbeltown RNLI lifeboat was launched and the Campbeltown Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to the scene.

A Royal Navy rescue helicopter from Prestwick was also scrambled.

Gary Young, watch manager at Belfast Coastguard, said: "Campbeltown lifeboat was quick to arrive on scene and safely transferred all four fishermen from their stricken vessel, with no reported injuries.

"The fishing vessel remains aground and will be assessed at first light."
