Flag-protest loyalists block roads and attack police in Belfast

Loyalists took to the streets again in protest against a decision by Belfast City Council to restrict the flying of the union flag at Belfast City Hall

LOYALISTS have blocked off some of south Belfast's main arterial routes in further protests against the city council's decision to restrict the flying of the union flag at City Hall.

There was a brief outbreak of trouble at Broadway, close to the M1 Motorway when masked youths attacked police with fireworks and other missiles.

Rush hour tea time traffic was delayed on a number of roads.

Loyalists also staged a small protest demonstration in Limavady, Co Londonderry which passed off without any trouble.
