Elderly man killed in house blaze

The Cork blaze was was the second fatal house fire in Ireland over the weekend

An elderly man has died in a house fire.

The blaze in Main Street in Rathcormac, Co Cork, was spotted at about 8pm on Sunday. No-one else was in the property at the time.

The man's body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

It was the second fatal house fire over the weekend following the deaths of three members of one family in Co Leitrim.

Pensioners Desmond and Patsie McDonald and their 34-year-old daughter Patricia were killed when a blaze ripped through their home.
