Cyclist killed in lorry accident

A young woman cyclist has been killed in an accident involving an articulated lorry.

Gardai said the incident happened today at 7.30am at a busy junction in Limerick city.

The cyclist was believed to be in her 30s and pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened near to the Hunt Museum junction of Rutland Street and Fr Matthew Bridge and Charlotte's Quay. Roads near the museum were closed and diversions put in place.

According to Garda statistics, eight cyclists have now been killed on the country's roads this year.

The woman's body was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place.
