Police have retrieved one of two giant eggs which went missing, a charity said.

The eggs, which went on display as part of a charity Easter egg hunt, were two of 200 placed across London to raise money for the Action for Children and Elephant Family charities.

Organisers of the Faberge Big Egg Hunt said on Saturday that the Post Box Egg, designed by Benjamin Shine, and Natasha Law's egg had disappeared.

But officers recovered Ms Law's egg, called Hatch, late on Saturday night, organisers said.

The Faberge Big Egg Hunt aims to raise £2 million for the two charities with the giant eggs having been created by some of the world's leading artists and designers including Mulberry, Sir Ridley Scott, Zandra Rhodes, Diane Von Furstenberg and Bruce Oldfield.

The event is also aimed at breaking two Guinness World Records for the most participants in an Easter egg hunt and the world's most expensive non-jewelled chocolate egg sold at auction, as designed by William Curley.

The eggs are due to be auctioned on March 20.

Mr Shine appealed for anyone with information about his missing egg to come forward.

He said: "Although I'm flattered someone wanted it so badly, I'm extremely disappointed thieves selfishly stole a piece created to raise vital funds for two very worthwhile charities.

"I'm also saddened that people currently out and about in London having fun taking part in the Faberge Big Egg Hunt won't be able to see the Egg Letter Box."
