Fly me to the moon - for a holiday
More than one in 10 holidaymakers believe vacations to the moon will be possible by 2020, a survey found
Holidaymakers have high expectations of just where their travels will take them in the near future, according to a survey.
As many as 11% believed that holidays to the moon will be possible by 2020, the survey by online travel agent www.sunshine.co.uk found.
And 16% reckoned a Channel Tunnel-style rail link between the UK and the US could be installed by 2020.
As many as 22% of the 1,926 people polled thought space-station resorts would be viable by 2020, while 54% believed lengthy submarine cruises could be possible by the beginning of the next decade.
The poll also found that 34% thought hot air balloon flights could replace traditional flights by 2020, while 4% even reckoned that time travel could happen at some point in the future.
Only 13% fancied going on a submarine cruise, but 91% would be happy to use a cross-Atlantic rail tunnel.
Sunshine.co.uk co-founder Chris Brown said: "It seems that some people just aren't content with the holidays of today.
"Some evidently quite like the idea of floating through space, as opposed to lounging by the pool or walking along a sunny beach. It's interesting to see what some people think will be possible in the near future."
