Boot ban for phone-smuggling pupils
A US school hopes a boot-ban will thwart pupils smuggling mobile phones into class
A suburban middle school in Philadelphia has outlawed popular type of fur-lined boots, but the ban is about mobile phones, rather than fashion.
Pottstown Middle School parents were informed of the new ban on the unlaced boots on Wednesday.
District community relations director John Armato told the Pottstown Mercury newspaper that students were using the boots to sneak mobiles into class.
Current school policy allows students to bring their phones to school but requires them to be kept in their locker during the day.
Armato said the ban targets the unlaced boots with fur or faux fur lining made by footwear companies including Ugg. It comes into effect Monday.
Principal Gail Cooper said students can still wear the boots to school, but must remove them before going to class.
